Sap, you propose a very good question but it's hard for the time being to see clearly. The result cannot completely suggest the step backwards for an independent Taiwan. Partly it is because the election is mainly concerned more about domestic issues, economy in particular, othern othan the national (re)orientation. The issue of Taiwanese identification needs to be studies or observed from a longer-term perspective.
